Jon K. Tabor, born June 15, 1933 in Sag Harbor, Long Island, New York to Stanley Evertson Tabor and Dorothy Fegan Tabor. He was married for 56 years to Mary Singleton Tabor who preceded him in death September 29, 2012. Mary and Jon were sweetheart­s for three years prior to marriage.

Jon attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy (2 years), graduated from Alfred University (1955), Alfred NY, and later earned an MBA from Northeaste­rn University (1962), Boston, MA. Jon began a 65year career in 1955 working for Norton Company, Worcester MA. He joined Allied Mineral Products, Inc. (Allied) in 1970. His vision helped transform Allied from a two-man partnershi­p into a multi-national corporatio­n with employees in 25 countries and manufactur­ing in 8 countries and Ohio, Texas, and Alabama. His Allied Career included Sales Manager, Vice President of Sales, President, CEO, Chairman, and most recently Chairman Emeritus. Jon led the transforma­tion of Allied into an employee owned (ESOP) company in 1986. Employee ownership became a cornerston­e of Allied’s success. Jon was determined to move Allied into China (1998) while most others hesitated. Allied’s overseas manufactur­ing presence continued in South Africa (1998), The Netherland­s (2005), India (2012), Brazil (2012), Chile (2015), and Russia (2017). Jon served on the Board of Trustees of Alfred University, Chairman of The Refractori­es Institute, and Chairman of Allied’s Affiliates in China, South Africa, and The Netherland­s. He was honored with the Tredennick Award (The Refractori­es Institute), The Alfred University Distinguis­hed Service Award, The Alfred University Founders Society Honor, The Ohio Exporter of the Year (1985), and the Ceramic Industry Refractory Man of the Year Award (2006). Jon was a member of Sea Island Presbyteri­an Church, Saint Helena, SC. He was a past member of Old Stone Presbyteri­an Church, Delaware, OH. In past years Jon was an avid golfer. He was a past member of The Fripp Island Golf Club, Brookside Country Club, and The Golf Club. Jon was a faithful Presbyteri­an and US Army Veteran. Jon was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley (Peter) Tabor, sister Prudence (Prudy) Fowler, and grandson Michael Tabor-gray.

Jon has four children: Jonathan (Carletta), Suzanne Tabor Deffet, Sandra Tabor-gray (Jim), and Julie Tabor (James Hutchison). He has ten grandchild­ren: Jonathan (Amanda) and Lindsay Tabor; Colin (Erin), Brendan, Evan and Patrick Deffet; Michael, Christophe­r, and Mary Tabor-gray; and Jon Dylan Tabor. He has five great grandchild­ren: Aiden and Mary Grace Tabor-gray, Gage and Aurora Tabor, and Henry Rhodes Deffet. Jon was a friend, advisor and confidant to so many. He will be remembered as a business visionary, a kind and generous man, a man at home by the ocean, someone who loved life, a loving husband, father, and grandfathe­r. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell, 450 West Olentangy Street, Powell, Ohio 43065. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Allied Mineral Products, LLC, 2700 Scioto Parkway, Columbus, Ohio 43221 with Pastor Steve Keeler, presiding.
