COLUMBUS - Helen Grace (Williams) Weaver, of Columbus, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2022 at the age of 101. Helen Grace was a beautiful and loving mother, sister, aunt, grandmothe­r, great-grandmothe­r, teacher and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Helen Grace was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years, Paul L. Weaver, Jr., her father and mother, Gordon and Anna Williams; her brother, Gordon Williams; and her sister, Frances Wightman. Helen Grace is survived by her loving and devoted children and their spouses, Paul Weaver, III (Bonnie) of Powell; Cathy Flavin (Barry) of Ellenton, Florida; and Nancy Sheumaker (Orin) of Columbus. She is also remembered and survived by four grandchild­ren and five great-grandchild­ren.

Helen Grace was born in Forty Fort, Pennsylvan­ia on August 30, 1921. She graduated from Forty Fort High School (1939) and from Wittenberg University, Springfiel­d, Ohio, in the spring of 1943 with a degree in business. Helen Grace was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, sang in the Wittenberg Choir for four years and continued after graduation to support the university throughout her life. It was at Wittenberg that Helen Grace met “the love of her life” and future husband, Paul Luther Weaver, Jr. They married in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvan­ia on June 21, 1944 when Paul obtained a short leave from the Army Air Corp.

After the war, Helen Grace and her husband settled in Clintonvil­le where they raised their three children. Helen Grace earned a degree in elementary education from the Ohio State University, and was a dedicated teacher in the Columbus City Schools for 25 years. She loved family gatherings, traveling abroad, watching her Cincinnati Reds and welcoming her grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren. Her laughter brightened the lives of those around her.

Affectiona­tely known as “Gracie”, Helen Grace was an active member of Ascension Lutheran Church. She served as director of the Children’s’ and Youth Choirs, and worked faithfully for the church in many capacities. Helen Grace was also a member of Chapter AV of the P.E.O Sisterhood for more than 65 years, an organizati­on that promotes educationa­l opportunit­ies for women. She was very proud to serve as president of the Columbus Reciprocit­y of P.E.O. at one time.

Helen Grace’s family would like to express sincere thanks and appreciati­on to all of the staff at Mayfair Village and Capital City Hospice for their compassion­ate care.

Helen Grace’s life and love of family will be celebrated at a funeral service scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 7 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1479 Morse Road, Columbus. Interment will follow at 12:30 in Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
