CANAL WINCHESTER - Richard N. Sompres, age 85, of Canal Winchester, Ohio passed away October 1, 2022. Richard was born in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Carlton and Alice Sompres. He was a 1955 graduate of Reynoldsbu­rg High School. Richard was drafted and proudly served his country. Upon his return from the Army, Richard married the love of his life, Sue. At the time of his death, they were 25 days shy of celebratin­g 60 years of marriage. Richard retired from EBCO Mfg. after 42 years and enjoyed attending the EBCO retirement luncheons. Richard enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, and participat­ing in Whitehall Seniors activities. Richard is survived by his wife Sue, daughter Anita (Chuck) Manring, his grandchild­ren Meredith Anderson, Christina (JJ) Shaffer, and Garrett (Noelle) Anderson and Kathy (Mick) Clark, the Etterling brothers-inlaw: Tom (Jo), Roy (Mary), Blaine (Myra), Paul (Mary), Richard, Bill (Kay) and sister-in-law Glenda. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ralph Sompres, uncle Robert Sompres, son-in-law Dr. Geoff Anderson, dear friend Jerry Anderson, several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Friday, October 7, 2022, from 6-8 pm at Lithopolis United Methodist Church, 80 N. Market St., Lithopolis, Ohio 43136. A memorial service will take place at 10:30am on Saturday, October 8, 2022, with Pastor Alex Feldman officiatin­g. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to the: Columbus VA, Attention Volunteer Services, 420 N. James Rd. Columbus, OH 43219. Special thanks to the South and East Home Health staff of the Dept. of Veteran Affairs and the David’s Disciples group at Lithopolis United Methodist Church for all the love and support they provided the family throughout Richard’s illness.
