Central Ohio’s top players
With the season underway, here is the girls basketball preseason Super 12, which is based on statistics and postseason awards from last season, expectations for this season and input from area coaches.
Emily Bratton, Bloom-carroll
The reigning Player of the Year in the Msl-buckeye Division and the district in Division II, Bratton helped the Bulldogs finish 19-6 and reach a district final.
The 5-foot-7 senior guard also was first-team all-state after averaging 16.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists.
Tessa Grady, Dublin Coffman
Grady is a 6-2 senior wing player and Wisconsin commit who has led the Shamrocks to back-to-back Division I regional runner-up finishes. She was first-team all-district and second-team all-state, the Occ-central Player of the Year. She averaged 14 points while shooting 58% from the floor.
Kamryn Grant, Africentric
With this 5-11 junior wing player leading the way, the Nubians were a Division III district runner-up and won the City League-south title. She averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds while earning first-team all-district and second-team all-state honors.
Madison Greene, Pickerington Central
A 5-6 senior guard who will enter her fourth season as a starter, Greene was instrumental as the Tigers won their seventh consecutive Division I district title, averaging 15.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals.
Nelia Guice, Westerville South
An Ohio Dominican commit, Guice led the Wildcats in scoring (12.9 points) and rebounding (7.8) in being named first-team all-league, second-team alldistrict and honorable mention all-state.
Jenna Kopyar, Dublin Coffman
Through eight games last season, Kopyar, a 5-11 guard, was averaging 19 points and had scored 28 and 26 points, respectively, in her final two games before suffering a season-ending injury.
Gianna Lane, Hilliard Darby
Lane, a sophomore, joins the Panthers after playing last season at Tree of Life, where she was special mention allstate, first-team all-district and the MOCAL Player of the Year. The 5-8 guard averaged 21.5 points, 5.8 steals, 5.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists.
Laila Marshall, Gahanna
Year: Senior
A 5-7 senior guard, Marshall averaged 11.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.5 steals while earning second-team all-district and honorable mention allstate honors.
Meghan Mayotte, Worthington Christian
An Ohio Dominican recruit, this 5-9 senior guard/wing player averaged 14.0 points and 5.0 rebounds while earning first-team all-district and third-team allstate honors.
Daniya Mcdonald, Reynoldsburg
Year: Junior
After spending her freshman season as a role player for Reynoldsburg when it reached a Division I regional semifinal, Mcdonald elevated her game last season when she averaged 20.0 points and 13.0 rebounds for Whitehall.
Kiarra Mcelrath, Hartley
The 5-6 guard was first-team all-ccl, first-team all-district and second-team all-state.
Berry Wallace, Pickerington Central
The 6-1 forward is coming off a breakout junior season in which she averaged 12.2 points and 9.0 rebounds.
