GROVEPORT - Charlene “Sue” (Webb) Hougland was born July 3rd, 1940 in Vinton County, Ohio to Leland “Bud” and Charlene Webb and she passed away January 29, 2023. Sue graduated Hamden High School in 1958 with a class of 25, Rio Grande College in 1961 with a Bachelors degree in Education, and completed several classes at The Ohio State University and Ashland College. Sue was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmothe­r, aunt, friend, teacher and author of two children’s books. She taught 2nd grade in Columbus for 8 years and 20 years as a learning disability tutor in Groveport. Selected to the Who’s Who among American Teachers in 2005, retiring in December of 1999. Sue met her husband John in July of 1957 and after a 9 year courtship, they were married in July of 1966. Together they bought Ackerman Drug Store in Groveport in 1967, changed the name to Groveport Pharmacy and operated it for 35 years until retirement in 2002. Sue is survived by her husband, John; children, J. Eric (Laura) Hougland of Chester, VA and Kara Scarberry of Gahanna; grandchild­ren, Katey Hougland, Chelsea and Caleb Scarberry; stepgrandc­hildren, Gracie and Max Dho; sister, Jane (Bill) Cleland of Racine, Ohio; sister-in-law, Mary Ann (Bill) Harris of Jackson, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and 1 great-great niece. Friends may call at the Groveport Zion Lutheran Church 6014 Groveport Rd. in Groveport from 5-8 pm Thursday, February 2nd and from 10 am until time of the funeral service at 11 am on Friday, February 3rd. Pastor Brian Mcgee will officiate. Entombment will follow at Lithopolis Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons may be made to the Groveport Zion Lutheran Church 6014 Groveport Rd., Groveport, Ohio 43125 “For The Sue Hougland Youth Fund” (to be created) and will be appreciate­d.
