MARYSVILLE - Douglas Keith Swackhammer, age 74, of Marysville, died Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Memorial Hospital in Marysville. He retired from Greif, Inc. in Delaware where he served as a Business Analyst. He worked at Medex (Smith Medical) for almost 19 years and Rockwell International for nearly four years. He was an active member of Marysville Christian Church, where he served as an Elder. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for five years; and while he was a “certified tank mechanic,” he “mostly did payroll.” Doug was a 1966 graduate of Bloom Carroll High School and attended Ohio University. He volunteered for Memorial Hospital mobile meals, the Union County Sheriff’s Office and the Hope Center. He loved old cars, music, racquetball and sports of all kinds. He and his daughter enjoyed playing pickleball together and were self-proclaimed champions. He was born February 7, 1948 in Lancaster, Ohio to the late Earl Junior and Aileen Carroll Swackhammer. He was also preceded in death by a sister-inlaw, Sandy Confere. Doug is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 55 years, Anna Marie Henslee Swackhammer; two daughters, Tonya (Jeff) Helber of Evans, Georgia and Nikole (Brian) Ogle of Baltimore, Ohio; his grandchildren, Brandon Douglas Vera, Cassidy Helber, Cooper (Alisha) Vera and Tres Vera; his great-grandchildren, Camilla Vera, Mateo Vera and Geno Vera; his brother, Steve (Debbie) Swackhammer of Lancaster; brothers-in-law, Roger (Joanne) Henslee and Norman “Gene” (Norma) Henslee; and many other loved ones.

The Lord called Doug home and freed him from his chronic health conditions. He took his final breaths, with his daughters at his side, between the hymns of “Love Lifted Me” (his daughter’s piano favorite) and his mother’s favorite, “I’ll Fly Away.” His dying wish was that through his death, somebody would hear the Gospel (God’s Word). They would learn that IF we repent (Luke 13:3 KJV) accept Jesus Christ as Our Lord and Savior (John 14:6 KJV), AND follow His commandments (John 14:21 KJV), we will have eternal life with our Father, our Creator in Heaven.

Join Doug’s family to celebrate his life (and almost 75th birthday) and give praise for the free gift of eternal life for which Jesus died on the Cross (John 3:16). The celebration will occur at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Marysville Christian Church, 17000 Waldo Road, Marysville, Ohio. Dress casually and in Doug’s memory, wear your favorite team attire - Bengals, Buckeyes, Reds attire is encouraged, but of course, all are welcome. “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth, but the Word of our God shall stand forever.” (Isaiah 40:18 KJV). Underwood Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers or memorials, the family asks that you take a moment to hug your children, grandchildren, and friends, and appreciate every moment, as time waits for no one. Doug enjoyed listening to Harry Chapin’s “Cats In The Cradle” and encourages all to hear the message in the song’s lyrics: https://youtu.be/pujt66y0tbw Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.underwoodfuneralhome.com.
