- On Wednesday, February 1, 2023, James Richard “Dick” Ferrell, 74, loving husband, father and grandfathe­r, passed away peacefully at his home in Cardington, Ohio. Dick was born in Steubenvil­le, Ohio, to Harry and F. Maxine Ferrell in 1948. He graduated from New Philadelph­ia High School in New Philadelph­ia, Ohio, and for 20 years he proudly served in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1989 as Chief Petty Officer. He then worked for the Department of Defense in Columbus, Ohio, for 20 years. Dick was an active member of Central Baptist Church of Marion, Ohio, and his love of faith, family, country and community was evident to everyone. Dick never met a stranger and was eager to share his faith in Jesus and even a story or two about his communicat­ions work in the Navy. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and son, James Richard Ferrell II. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen “Kathy”; as well as his daughter, Julie; grandchild­ren, Allison, Bryce, Katlyn, James III, Willow, Elijah, Joseph, Caleb and Jonah; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, from 2pm to 3pm at Central Baptist Church, 2816 Marion-waldo Road, Marion, Ohio. The service with military honors will begin at 3pm with Pastor Eric Duenke officiatin­g. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons may be made to Central Baptist Church.
