Larry Fleet set to perform ahead of Buckeye Country Superfest
Blue-collar country singer Larry Fleet, whose influences range from Merle Haggard to Marvin Gaye, will headline a special pre-party on May 26 - the night before the 2023 Buckeye Country Superfest - at Newport Music Hall, 1722 N. High St.
The 7 p.m. party is free for VIP ticketholders, while tickets for the general public are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at Axs.com.
Tennessee native Fleet, who joined his great-grandfather and great-uncle’s bluegrass band at age 6, had been performing his music for about a decade while working such day jobs as construction and masonry. In 2017, he was playing cover songs at a wedding when a chance encounter with Jake Owen led to a friendship and an opening spot on the road.
It wasn’t long before Fleet found himself sharing the stage with one of his heroes, Willie Nelson, and making a name as a songwriter in Nashville co-writing with acclaimed tunesmiths including Rhett Akins.
Fleet has released two albums, including 2021’s “Stack of Records,” which spawned the hit, “Where I Find God.” The ode to finding peace in a higher power earned him praise from Billboard for his “emotive vocals,” and the official music video has been viewed more than 29 million times.
After wrapping a supporting slot on tour with Morgan Wallen, Fleet launched his own headlining “One for the Road Tour,” selling out shows across the country.
Buckeye Country Superfest, which takes place May 27 at Ohio Stadium, will feature “King of Country” George Strait with Chris Stapleton and special guests Little Big Town and Warren Zeiders. Tickets are still available through Ticketmaster.com.
