Woman struck, killed after getting out of SUV following East Side highway crash

Columbus police say a woman who had been involved in a crash Thursday morning on Interstate 70 was killed after being struck by another vehicle while she was standing on the highway.

Three others were injured, including a man who was critically injured while attempting to help the woman and her passenger.

Columbus police said the initial crash occurred shortly after midnight on Thursday morning on I-70 westbound at the exit to Interstate 270.

A Ford Explorer driven by Latosha Jordan, 43, of Driving Park, was headed west on I-70 approachin­g the exit ramps when she struck a freeway attenuator, or a mechanism on the side of a highway meant to absorb impact. The Explorer was disabled as a result of the crash. police said.

Jordan got out of the vehicle after the crash while her passenger, 35-yearold Antonio Stubbs, of the Far West Side, stayed inside the SUV, police said.

Ronald Sipp, 49, of the East Side, walked down onto the highway from an apartment complex that is located along the interstate in which police said was an effort to help Jordan and Stubbs.

Sipp and Jordan were then struck by a Chevrolet Malibu driven by 20-yearold Faith Sadler, of Dublin, who was driving westbound on I-70, police said.

Jordan died at the scene of the crash. Sipp was taken to Mount Carmel East hospital in critical condition, police said.

Sadler was also taken to Mount Carmel East with severe injuries that are not considered to be life-threatenin­g.

Stubbs was taken to Ohiohealth Grant Medical Center with non-life threatenin­g injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigat­ion.
