Coffman grad Steiner sets another record

Sets indoor American mark in 300 meters

-

Abby Steiner had another recordbreaking weekend.

The former Dublin Coffman High School and Kentucky sprinter who went on to become a USA Track & Field national champion added another record to her resume at the Millrose Games in New York City on Saturday, breaking the indoor American record in the 300-meter sprint.

Steiner ran it in 35.34 seconds, the third-fastest indoor 300-meter in history.

Steiner holds the American women’s indoor record and the NCAA outdoor record in the 200-meter dash, winning the US Outdoor Championship in a time of 21.77-second.

Steiner told Flotrack that the 300meter is "a bit more strategic" than the 200-meter and that it pushes her out of her comfort zone.

"I know these longer races are just going to help me at the end of my 200," Steiner said.

The Millrose Games are viewed as the premier indoor track and field invitational of the season, whicjh leads into the USA Track & Field Indoor National Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In the World Athletics Championship in Eugene, Oregon this summer, Steiner helped the United States to a first-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, recording the fastest time ever run on U.S. soil with a 3:17.79, nearly three seconds ahead of second-place Jamaica.

Steiner, a 15-time All-american, is the American, collegiate, Southeastern Conference and Kentucky record-holder in the indoor 200-meters, along with holding collegiate, SEC and Kentucky records in the outdoor 200-meter dash and 300meters.

At Coffman, Steiner won four consecutive state outdoor titles in the 200, along with state titles in the 100 during her final three seasons of high school.
