Mary Janet Held

-

DELAWARE - Mary Janet Held (aka “Momma Held”), 89, of Delaware, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Saturday, February 11, 2023.

She was born December 5, 1933, in Hyatts, Ohio, to the late Henry Dewey & Hazel L. (Cozart) Bauder. Janet graduated from Hyatts High in 1953. She served many years as the President of the Hyatt’s Alumni & Friends Reunion that meets every year on the 2nd Sunday in August. Spending time with her classmates and bringing people together brought her tremendous joy.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter James Held Jr., and brothers Dale, Don, Harold, Allen, and David.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Jerry (Shanda) Held; granddaughter Josie; her brother Bob Bauder; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Janet dedicated 25 years of service as a bus driver with the Buckeye Valley School District. Her route mainly included the Ostrander area. After she retired, she continued to enjoy her time as a member of the Wednesday Morning Breakfast Club; a group of retired bus drivers that met weekly.

Janet loved bowling. There were times she bowled daily and even made an appearance on the television show called, Bowling for Dollars. If she wasn’t bowling, she could be found playing Euchre. She attended The Little Brown Jug every year, and was an avid sports fanatic, especially when it came to rooting for her granddaughter, sometimes even heckling the referees and coaches. Janet was also known for some signature recipes such as: Oyster Dressing, Gumdrop Cake (which was not fruit cake), Russian tea cakes, and fudge (both chocolate and peanut butter).

Janet was a social butterfly and never knew a stranger. She was always the first to offer a helping hand with family, friends and even strangers. She was tough, resilient and a true example of strength. Janet was fiercely proud of and loved and cared for her family and extended family. She was a generous and supportive mother, grandmother, and sister.

Friends may call on Friday, February 17, 2023, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Snyder-rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive, Delaware, Ohio 43015.

A procession will depart from the funeral home promptly at 11:00 am Saturday, February 18, 2023. Rev. Donnie Akers will officiate graveside services at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Delaware (south side of Oak Grove Cemetery on Sandusky St).
