Charles “Chuck” Leroy Snyder III

-

Charles “Chuck” Leroy Snyder III was born in Columbus, Ohio to Charles Jr. and Edna (Clouse) Snyder. Following his father’s graduation from law school, the family returned to the paternal home of Steubenville, OH. However, some of his best childhood memories were of time spent in Columbus (Clintonville) with his maternal grandparents C. Roy and Nelle Clouse. He graduated from Big Red High School and attended Ohio State, Northland College (Ashland, WI), and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Franklin University (Columbus, OH).

He was employed by multiple companies/institutions but was most proud of his time with The Ohio State University’s Nisonger Center. He recognized the power of technology and purchased a personal computer, learned to use multiple programs, then successfully advocated the purchase of them for the clerical and support staff at the Center and trained them in their use. He looked for ways to improve the operations of the Center.

He had many hobbies and interests. Prior to meeting his future wife, he constructed and flew model airplanes. After their meeting he bought his first sailboat, a very tiny Sunflower, and became forever infected with a love of sailing. He successfully raced a few regattas but soon after, chose cruising with the family. Since sailing limited his fun to various bodies of water, he also enjoyed owning and driving a sports car. While living in Maryland he especially loved a spring day with the top down on his corvette, 60’s music playing, traversing the hilly and twisted back-country roads in the greater-frederick area. He was nearly in rapture with several days of attendance at Bondurant’s Driving School (AZ), taking one of their corvettes through its paces on their track. He delighted in making wooden heirloom toys, e.g., rocking horses, for his granddaughters. He pursued the genealogy of his ancestors, taking enjoyment from each of their stories.

He was a member of the Collections Committee of the Delaware County Historical Society (OH) and had donated his time to identifying and preserving objects in their collection. He aided the St. Mary Marion Garden Guild in their beautification projects and was a member of the Moose Lodge #899.

The real loves of his life were his family and especially time shared with them in pursuit of one of his passions. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years Margaret Duber Snyder, sons Charles IV (Tiffany) and Daniel (Rian Orders) and his three amazing and delightful granddaughters: Charli, Claire and Dylan.

Viewing and the family’s reception of friends and extended family will be on Friday February 24, 2023 from 4 – 7 pm and on Saturday morning February 25, 2023 from 10:00 am until the time of his funeral service at 11:00 am at the Snyder-rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Drive at W. William Street, Delaware, OH, with Reverend Monty Kaufman officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Delaware.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Charles’ memory to the Delaware County Historical Society (OH), Jefferson County Historical Association (OH), or Maritime Museum of Sandusky (OH).
