Daniel Joseph Black
ONTARIO - Grandmaster Daniel Black, 62, of Ontario Ohio, passed away on February 27, 2023, at home, with family bedside, after a courageous battle with ampullary cancer.
Daniel was born on May 23, 1959, in Athens Ohio to parents Hollis (deceased) and Barbera Black; Daniel was their first child who paved the way for the rest of his siblings; Sue married to Mike Jared, Sam married to Melody, John married to Diane, Tony and Tom. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kathy Black, sons Brian Blosser and Daniel (Danny) Black, daughters Angie and Doris, his stepson Colonel Brandon Tackett, grandchildren Viola, Marco and Savannah Takett, Aubrey Black, Holli Black, Chelsea Black, and Cameron Blosser. Also, many nieces and nephews.
Daniel was a devout Catholic, Grand Chapter Royal Arch Mason, Grand Council Cryptic Mason, Master Mason, and grandmaster of Hapkido and Taekwondo. He participated in martial arts to learn self-defense through Taekwondo at Grandmaster Joon Pyo Choi’s school. When Daniel learned there was a Hapkido master in Columbus, he sought him out and became Grandmaster Moo Young Kang’s number one student and lifelong friend. Daniel would go on to spend the rest of his life heavily dedicated to competing in and teaching martial arts. Daniel won numerous tournaments and achieved many titles during his career. The demonstrations of Grandmaster Kang and Daniel were legendary, as were the demonstrations of Daniel and his senior students.
Following a distinguished tournament career, Daniel had his own Taekwondo and Hapkido school under the approval and help of Grandmaster Kang. Daniel was the coach of 5 Junior Olympics teams and won various Columbus City Council and Ohio Senate awards due to his expertise, leadership, and community outreach. A true pillar in many communities.
