LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Let it sink in
To get an idea of the kind of corruption one-party rule can lead to, Ohioans need look no further than former Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder, the Republican who, ironically enough, also served as cochair of the Joint Legislative Ethics Committee.
In case anyone missed it, according to the Dispatch, in reference to two political rivals, Householder was recorded saying, “Just say if you’re going to (expletive) with me, I’m going to (expletive) with your kids.” (March 6, “Fed prosecutor dismantles claims by Householder”)
Let that sink in a moment.
This is a Republican speaker of the House threatening someone’s children.
In my opinion, the sheer magnitude of Householder’s and his cronies’ alleged scheme, and the audacity it took to think they could get away with it, are due, at least in part, to our state being under an unconstitutionally gerrymandered one-party rule.
Until that changes, I fear we are in for more of the same in the future.
And finally, a sincere thank you to the Dispatch and its hardworking reporters who have done a tremendous job covering this story, proving once again how important local journalism is in shining light on our elected leaders.
The country’s Founding Fathers were indeed wise in understanding the important role the Fourth Estate plays in a functioning democracy. Now, with information in hand, it’s up to us as citizens to choose our leaders wisely and to hold them accountable.

Bernie Moreno can’t face truth about Donald Trump
“If Trump is nominated, GOP must back him,” Bernie Moreno March 4 guest column, was an insult to the intelligence of this American.
I have been a conservative and a Republican my entire adult life. I grew up in a blue-collar family where the truth and having honor mattered.
Moreno is either a fool who does not know what the truth is or is playing the game of spouting half-truths while offering exactly no solutions.
I do not agree with some of the Biden policies. The college debt forgiveness was a typical misguided liberal initiative. However, President Biden is an honorable man.
He has done more for working-class people than any president in my lifetime.
Republicans will never win another national election with Donald Trump. He is not a true Republican and has no genuine regard for our military or our democracy. Most people now see this.
It is often difficult to face the truth and do what is right. We as Americans owe it to our children and our grandchildren to figure out what the “right” is.
