Robert Kern

- Kern, Robert Richard, age 85, of Galloway, Ohio passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and loved ones on March 8, 2023. He was born in Columbus, Ohio to the late Robert and Helen (Barr) Kern. Robert leaves behind his loving wife, Darlene (Rich) Kern; children Kristen (Todd) Brock, Deborah Kern (Jerry Jackson), Sonja (Raymund) Miller, Timothy Hannum (Holly Cloud); grandchildren Tiffany, Christian, Brandon, Megan, Tyler, Mallory, Hannah and Eli; great grandchildren Alina, Wyatt, Colton, Mckynlee, Mitt, Maren, Christian, Rally and Nora; siblings William (Judy) Kern and Nancy (Tom) Rutan. Robert graduated from West High and was later inducted into the West High Hall of Fame. He went on to honorably serve his country in the US Army. He graduated from THE Ohio State University. He joined the Columbus Police Department serving for 40+ years. Moving up through the ranks, he retired his last 16 years as Deputy Chief. Robert could be found on his riding mower and meticulously tending to his lawn in which he took great pride. He was an avid supporter of the buckeyes and collector of Lionel Model Trains. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and loved him. Visitation for Robert will be held on Wednesday March 15, 2023 from 4PM to 6PM at the Galloway Presbyterian Church, 6191 Hall Rd, Galloway, OH 43119 where the Fraternal Order of Police Service will take place at 6PM. There will be a second visitation on Thursday March 16, 2023 at the church from 10AM to 1PM with the funeral service starting at 1PM. Burial will follow in Alton Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to be made to Galloway Presbyterian Church, 6191 Hall Road Galloway, OH 43119.
