The 95th Oscars

Awards season culminates with Hollywood’s biggest night as the Academy Awards honor the best films of 2022. Leading the field is Everything Everywhere All at Once with 11 nominations, followed by All Quiet on the Western Front and The Banshees of Inisherin with nine nods each, Elvis with eight and The Fabelmans with seven. Among notable nominees, Michelle Yeoh is the first Malaysian nominated as Best Actress (Everything Everywhere All at Once); Best Supporting Actress nominee Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) is the first actor in a Marvel movie to be nominated for an Oscar; and Best Original Score nominee John Williams (The Fabelmans) adds to his reign as the Oscars’ most-nominated living person (he’s now at 53). Jimmy Kimmel returns to host the ceremony. Rihanna has been announced as a performer; she will sing the Oscar-nominated “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Also announced as performers are Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava, who will sing the Oscarnominated “Naatu Naatu” from the Indian action drama RRR.

The Last of Us
HBO, 9 p.m. ● Season Finale
The postapocalyptic drama about hardened survivor Joel (Pedro Pascal), who is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey) out of an oppressive quarantine zone, concludes its first season. HBO has renewed it for Season 2.
Magnum P.I.
NBC, 9 p.m.
Magnum (Jay Hernandez) recruits Katsumoto (Tim Kang) to help find a missing tourist.
Shock Docs
Travel Channel, 9 p.m.
This installment of the Shock Docs franchise focuses on the reported 1975 incident in which logger Travis Walton disappeared after his fellow workers claimed to have seen him hit by a bolt of light from a UFO, a report that inspired the 1993 movie Fire in the Sky.
Naked and Afraid: Solo
Discovery Channel, 10 p.m. ● New Series Eight of the Naked and Afraid franchise’s most battle-tested survivalists will attempt to endure 21 days completely solo. This series takes place in some of the most remote and harsh environments in the world.
A Spy Among Friends
MGM+, 10 p.m. ● New Series
This six-episode drama is the true story of two British spies and lifelong friends, Kim Philby and Nicholas Elliott. Philby became the most notorious British defector and Soviet double agent in history.
American Idol

This special audition episode of American Idol follows the Oscars ceremony at approximately this start time.
