1967 Lincoln once owned by Elvis rolls into Ohio car shop

- Steven M. Grazier

JACKSON TWP. – When it comes to cars, Steve and Paul Dimos fall into the category of bigtime buffs.

So when a 1967 Lincoln — once owned by “The King of Rock & Roll” Elvis Presley — became available, they were “All Shook Up.”

The Dimos duo nabbed the white, slab-bodied Lincoln Continental via an online auction in February. The car, originally bought new by Elvis for his father Vernon in the late 1960s, is parked inside Black Horse Motors, 5859 Wales Ave. NW, where it will be on display publicly for an unspecified time.

“I like neat things, and I’m a big Elvis fan,” said Steve Dimos, noting that he may add the vehicle to his personal collection. “(Elvis) had a lot of cars in his lifetime and gave many of them away.”

Up until a few years ago, the classic car with four “suicide doors” was in the Elvis Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, which was its home for about 40 years, he said. The car had been in the hands of Elvis memorabilia collector

Mike Moon since around 1980, who had the vehicle displayed at the museum for much of that time.

“There are a few people in your lifetime who make history, and (Elvis) is one of them,” said Steve Dimos, noting that the car was bought for more than $50,000. “To sit behind the wheel and drive this car is pretty cool. It gives you chills.”

The Lincoln has about 91,000 miles and is nearly 20 feet in length. Elvis gave the car to his father, Vernon, in 1969, after owning it himself for about a year.

Unique cars are not unusual for Black Horse Motors. In 2021, Phil Dimos and the shop’s co-owner, Chris Brosch, purchased a 1932 Ford Roadster, known as a Little Deuce Coupe, which had ties to the Beach Boys music group. They sold the car last year.

Paul Dimos said he plans to hold onto the Lincoln for a while, and may venture out to some car shows around the U.S.

“For now, we’re going to keep it as is (at Black Horse Motors),” he said.
