GAHANNA - Alfred “Al” A. Campbell, age 92 of Gahanna, Ohio passed away on March 14, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born August, 2, 1932 in Columbus Ohio to Arthur E. Campbell and Ottilie (Genthe) Campbell. He grew up in Bexley, Ohio and graduated from Bexley High School where he was on the football, basketball, golf and track teams. He graduated from OSU majoring in business administra­tion and was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He joined the Ohio National Guard, attaining the rank of master sergeant. He began his career at Nationwide Insurance Co. before moving on to the Crane Co. where he met his wife, Carol Drake. The majority of his working career was with Western Electric Co. as a manager in manufactur­ing operations. He was chosen to represent Western Electric with the National Alliance of Business program and later the Central Ohio United Way campaign. He retired in 1987 after 35 years. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and spending time at Hide Away Hill but his real passion was golf. He was a member of the Columbus Country Club for over 70 years. They wintered in Siesta Key, FL. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Gahanna and Faith Lutheran Church in Sarasota, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marilyn I. Campbell. Besides his loving wife of 65 years,carol, he is survived by his three children: Cathy (Scott) Eckhardt of Powell, Ohio, Caren (Steve) Degroote of Lewis Center, Ohio, and Scott (Tami) Campbell of Strongsvil­le, Ohio and 6 grandchild­ren: Andrew (Jacqueline) Eckhardt, Amanda (Alex) Abney, Nicholas Degroote, Jennay Degroote, Bradley Campbell and Logan Campbell. Friends may call on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 12:001:00pm with a service held immediatel­y following at Schoedinge­r Margarum Funeral Home at 1051 E. Johnstown Rd. in Gahanna.
