Phillip Shearer

-

Phillip Frank Shearer, age 76, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at Brookdale Muirfield in Dublin, Ohio.

Phillip was born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, grew up in and around Irwin, and was a graduate of Norwin High School. Immediately following high school, Phillip enlisted and became a proud Marine and Vietnam War veteran. After being honorably discharged from the Marines, he had a long career in retail management, most memorably at Children’s Palace and Media Play.

Phillip loved toys and gadgets and would frequently spoil his children with the latest toys from work, often so he could play with them, too. After his children were grown, he enjoyed performing and hosting Karaoke at local bars and going to the Columbus Zoo and other places to view and photograph the flora and fauna.

A humble man, Phillip often put himself last in service of his family and friends. Many times, he did without so that his children could want for nothing. He was fond of puzzles and brain teasers and regularly worked crossword puzzles and sudoku to stay sharp. In recent years, he enjoyed watching nostalgic television and posting his daily Wordle. He had a lifelong appreciation for “B” movies and he never lost his enjoyment of “Dad Jokes” and puns.

Phillip is preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Melba; wife, Karen, and grandson, James Shearer II. He is survived by his sons, Peter (Lora) and James Shearer; and grandchildren, Emily, Megan, Luke, and Anna. The family has entrusted Schoedinger Dublin with private graveside service. He will be laid to rest at Green Lawn Cemetery, in Columbus, Ohio. Family has entrusted Schoedinger Dublin with arrangements.
