Myron “Tyke” L. Staten
Myron “Tyke” L. Staten, 74, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023 at his residence surrounded by family after a brief battle with lung cancer. Myron was born the eldest of four children to the late Joseph and Faye Maurcine Staten in Cincinnati, Ohio. Myron enlisted in the United States Navy on his 16th birthday and served for four years. He served in San Diego, Japan, and proudly served on the USS St. Paul CA73 in Vietnam. Myron worked at Doctors West Hospital, Remington Rand, Ohio Malleable Iron, and Capital City Products before starting his own business, Joshua Services, in 1991 that he owned and operated until retirement in 2018. Myron met the love of his life, Mary, at Doctors West where they both worked and they married on April 2, 1971. During their fifty two year marriage they had six children: Angela Staten, Robin (Ray) Davidson, Aimee (Frank) Steere, Christina (Derek) Staifer, Joseph (Leah) Staten and Joshua Adam Staten who preceded him in death. Though he was many things to many people, his favorite thing was being the very best Pappy/abuelo to his ten grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Lizzie Robles; Alice, Sarah and Spencer Davidson; Keaton Polley; Luci “Max” Marx; Frank Staten; Will and Evan Staifer.
Myron is preceded in death by his parents, infant son, sister Brenda Esquivel, brother Keith Staten, mother-in-law Edna Williams, sister-in-law Aggie Staten, and niece Deara Cole. Survivors include his wife Mary; five children; ten grandchildren; brother Ken “Randy” Staten; sisters-in-law Belma“jean”(jeff)kellyandbilliewilliams;brothers-in-lawbill(debbie) Williams and Victor Esquivel; nieces Nicole Esquivel and Kennedy Skeens; nephews Jon (Vilay) Staten, Brian Staten, Jesse (Michelle) Williams, Jacob (Misty) Williams, Brandon Williams, Dylan (Heidi) Kelly, Gus Kelly; numerous great nieces and nephews and extended family members; many special friends who became like family over the years. The family would like to thank the Kobacker House for their tremendous support and delicate care in such a difficult time.
His lifelong passions started with family, but also included being a veteran and member of the VFW Post #4931 as well as the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA) Chapter 12-1. He volunteered many hours, made many friends and would always help anyone in need. Though he seemed quick witted and sometimes rough around the edges, he had a huge heart and was a deeply generous man.
Friends and family may call on Tuesday, May 23 from 4-7 p.m. at Tidd Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich Street, Hilliard, OH 43026. Funeral service will be Thursday, May 25 at 11 a.m. at Tidd Funeral Home with nephew Dylan Kelly officiating. Graveside service at Wesley Chapel Cemetery immediately following the funeral with military honors at cemetery. Following the burial, the family invites friends to join a reception at the CPT Nicholas J. Rozanski Memorial Post 4931.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hilliard Church of the Nazarene or the CPT Nicholas J. Rozanski Memorial Post 4931 in his memory.
