It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our father, Lonnie A. Simpson on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Lonnie was born on July 1, 1932 in Sharon, Pennsylvan­ia to the late James and Anna Simpson. He lived his childhood days in Brookfield, Ohio. He entered the United States Air Force in the enlisted ranks and rose to become a Major. He loved flying. He originally flew the B-47 bomber and was chosen to retire one of the planes at Davis Monthan in Arizona. After this he began flying the KC-135 in Vietnam, where he served for 3 years flying over 200 successful combat missions. He was also a Command Instructor Pilot. After 23 years in the Air Force he retired and worked for Rockwell Internatio­nal teaching classes on the B-1 Bomber. Later, he became District Manager for Metropolit­an Life Insurance and finally a personal banker at Huntington Bank. Lonnie enjoyed being a Mason and president of Camp Fire, USA for many years. He loved spending time with his family at the cottage he built with his father-in-law in 1956. Lonnie is preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Grace Moore Simpson, Goddaughte­r Viki Miller, Brother James Simpson. He is survived by his daughter Lori (John) Buchanan and son Scott Simpson, as well as his grandchild­ren Rachel Buchanan, Paige Buchanan, Bridget Buchanan, Hilary Simpson, Jennifer Billingsle­y, Julie (Pete) Waddell and may great-grandchild­ren. Also, his great friend Gene Ball. Friends may call Tuesday, May 30, 2023 from 4-6 p.m. at EGAN-RYAN NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 4661 Kenny Road. A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Mifflin Township Cemetery, 218 Agler Road.
