5 summer camps that still have openings
Summer’s here, which means camp season is too.
Late to the registration game? No sweat. Here are five Columbus Recreation and Parks Department youth summer camps that are still open for registration.
Camp Public Health
Where: Blackburn Community Center, 263 Carpenter St.
When: July 10-14, 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
Ages: 12-15
Price: $50 for residents, $60 for nonresidents
Details: This science camp, which has online registration, will teach tweens and teens about public health topics like food safety and carbon footprints.
Carriage Place Cheer Camp
Where: Carriage Place Community Center, 4900 Sawmill Road
When: July 3-7, 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m.
Ages: 5-12
Price: $68 for residents, $81 for nonresidents
Details: Campers, who can register online, will learn cheer fundamentals in preparation for an end-of-week performance in front of parents and guests.
Coach Reggie DAS sports camps
Where: Carriage Place Community Center, 4900 Sawmill Road
When: June 5-Aug. 11, on weekdays from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. or 1:30-5:30 p.m. for half-days or 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. for full days
Ages: 5-14
Price: For residents, $160 per week for full days or $80 for half days. For nonresidents, $192 per week for full days or $96 for half days.
Details: The sports that campers play will vary by week. Spots in some — but not all — weeks remain open. Registration is available online by week.
Columbus Police and Fire Exploration Camp
Where: Cleo Dumaree Athletic Complex, 276 S. Nelson Road
When: Aug. 7-11, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday
Ages: 12-15
Price: $60 for residents, $72 for nonresidents.
Details: Participants, who can register online, will learn public safety techniques, tour facilities and meet Columbus police officers and firefighters.
CRPD Fitness camps
Where: Blackburn, Douglas, Driving Park and Glenwood community centers
When: June 12-Aug. 4, on weekdays from 7 a.m.-6 p.m.
Ages: 6-14
Price: $195
