Richard(rick) Arthur Savors

-

Richard (Rick) Arthur Savors, of Worthington, passed away in Loudoun County, Virginia on September 11, 2023 at age 67, surrounded by his loving family. Born November 21, 1955 in East Liverpool, Ohio, he was a loving father and husband. As an only child, he longed for a bigger family - which he got when he married Emily; he was thrilled to marry into a family of loving in-laws. Being a father of two brought him joy and a sense of purpose.

He truly believed in the goodness of each person, and he conveyed this to those who needed to hear it - always willing to be vulnerable by telling people of their goodness. Rick was, informally, a diplomat, his behavior rooted in love for family, friends, coworkers, and community. He is remembered by his family as the person who always knew what to say, who always had a joke (usually a corny dad joke that no one could resist laughing at), and who always, without fail, did whatever was needed to be there for his family. Rick was tender, principled, humble, and had a quiet intensity.

He loved reading, doing crosswords, and practicing his German (despite his family never knowing what he was saying). Ask anyone in his family and they will tell you he was the kindest of them all. His favorite movie was Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, his favorite music was anything by the Beatles and The Who, and he was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. A farm boy at heart, he loved sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee while enjoying nature, and he could perfectly imitate the noises of any farm animal, his “moo” being the most impressive. As the first in his family to go to college (let alone obtain a Master’s Degree), Rick worked for many years in TV and radio broadcasting, as a lobbyist for the Ohio School Boards Association, and then as the Chief of Communications for the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission.

While he did not fully understand the sibling relationship, he would watch his daughters interact - sometimes humbled, sometimes confused, yet always cherishing their love. He passed on his love of reading, Star Wars, The Steelers, and random yet vast knowledge of history and facts to his daughter Eleanor. He passed on his people skills and empathy to his daughter Rebecca. Passing on the title of kindest in the family, he bonded with his son-in-law Zac over football and history. With the love of his life, wife Emily, he imparted on her a sense of peace no matter what goes on in the world around her.

Rick was predeceased by his parents, Richard (Dick) and Marie. He is survived by his wife Emily, his daughters Rebecca and Eleanor, his son-in-law Zac, his cousins Jerry and Cookie, loving siblings-in-law (Andrew, Alison, Jim, Joey, Julia, Sarah), nephews (Griffin, Lake, Wilson), and beloved family Alan, Nuha, Julia, Charsey, Erik, and Soren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 23rd at 1:30 pm at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 45 W. Winter St, in Delaware, Ohio. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that loved ones send letters of their fondest memories of Rick, listen to classic rock and roll, and eat corn-on-the-cob in his honor. Rick would encourage donations to any charity; his favorites were the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association.
