COLUMBUS - Harry Richard Meek, 89 of Columbus, passed away September 20, 2023. He is proceeded in death by his parents and his beloved son Scott Richard Meek. Harry is survived by his son Harry Richard Meek II (Omaida) and daughter Michele Ann Vandyke. In addition to his children, he was blessed to enjoy six grandchild­ren, nine great grandchild­ren and two great great-grandchild­ren. Harry was a proud Veteran of United States Army and served in the “Forgotten War” (Korean) and member of The Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio. After receiving both his bachelor’s and master’s degree in education, he dedicated his working life to education in the classroom, as an administra­tor and finally promoting adult and community education at the Ohio State Department of Education. Harry will best be remembered for the lifelong friends he made wherever he went, his tireless fundraisin­g efforts for veterans and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and his unwavering love and support of his family. Forever the giver, Harry proudly chose to be a donor to the Ohio State University Body Donor Program. His beloved grandchild­ren Aaron Meek, Lisa Brumfield and Emily Cacchione will be hosting a celebratio­n in honor of a life well lived on his 90th birthday, October 15, 2023 at Byrne’s Pub, 1248 W 3rd Ave., Columbus OH 43212 from 1:00-3:00pm. For those wishing to honor Harry through donation, the charities of his choice would be The Wounded Warrior Project (carryforwa­rd@woundedwar­riorprojec­t.org) and Crohn’s and Colitis Research at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in honor of Harry R. Meek through the donation tab. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
