Suspects charged in man’s fatal shooting at Autozone

- Bethany Bruner

Columbus police have arrested two men in connection with the fatal August shooting of a customer who tried to intervene in an armed robbery attempt at an Autozone store in the Polaris commercial area.

Zackeyis Davis, 22, of the East Side, and Darius Wynn, 28, of the South Side, face charges in Delaware County Common

Pleas Court of aggravated murder in the shooting death of Alejandro Fajardo-torres, 43, according to court records. Davis was ordered held on $5 million bond, and Wynn was ordered held on $3 million bond during their initial court appearances on Monday.

In court records, police accused Davis and Wynn of trying to rob the Autozone store, 8338 Sancus Blvd., at gunpoint around 5:10 p.m. Aug. 24.

Fajardo-torres, who was a customer and had a concealed carry permit, tried to intervene and help the store clerk, who had been pistol-whipped, police said.

Police accused Davis of shooting Fajardo-torres, who they say died at the scene from his injuries.

Fajardo-torres was at the store near his home to pick up a part for his vehicle, according to his fiancé, who is among his survivors along with a 10-year-old son, as well as an extended family and large number of friends. A candlelight vigil held outside the store several days after the homicide drew a large crowd.

Police said at the time of Fajardotorres’ death that they believed the robbery was linked to several others around that time in which auto parts stores were targeted.
