NEW ALBANY

-

- After a courageous battle, on Friday, December 22nd, William “Bill” J. Rackett, entered into eternal rest from the comfort of his home surrounded by family.

Bill, an avid golfer and follower of his faith, was born in Circleville, OH and grew up alongside his devoted parents and eight loving siblings in Lebanon, OH. There, he attended St. Francis de Sales Elementary School and Lebanon High School where he enjoyed cross country. After high school, he went on to attend and graduate from The Ohio State University in 1979. He dedicated 30 years to his career as a UPS Teamster before retiring. At which time he truly got to spend his days exactly as he wanted, near a golf course. Bill was a lifelong learner and lover of the game of golf with a deep appreciation for perfectly manicured greens.

As a long time resident of the picturesque town of New Albany, OH, when he wasn’t found perusing the stacks at the New Albany public library for his next good book, or improving his swing on the golf course or at the driving range, he could often be found quiet in prayer in a pew at Church of the Resurrection, a home away from home for him since its inception. Bill had a profound adoration for the Eucharist and more than attending mass or manning the fryer at the weekly fish fry during Lent, Bill rejoiced in the opportunity to instill a love of reading and God into the next generation of second grade Creed students in their pursuit of the Sacrament of First Holy Communion.

Bill was a lifelong, devoted Buckeye fan and rooted for the Bengals any chance he got but most of his time was spent studying the works of some of the most prolific PGA golfers of his time.

Bill was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 10941.
