David Kingsley Hull

-

David Kingsley Hull was born 30th August 1947, in the Orange Hospital, Orange NJ, to Jane Ballentine Sharp Hull and Vincent K Hull. Two wonderful brothers, Tim and Alan followed. David was a Jersey boy almost his whole life until 1998 when he moved with his wife Mare to Dublin, OH. They recently moved from Dublin, OH to First Community Village, a Senior Living campus in Columbus, OH. David lived in Short Hills and attended Millburn Schools until his late high school years when he went up to Holderness School in New Hampshire. From there David went to Colorado College and graduated as a history major. David found a way to go to almost every College and University in the tri-state area taking history courses which could have amounted to at least three PHD degrees, but David searched out the best he could find. A very involved life in Democratic Politics followed and continued a volunteer basis the rest of his life. While a Vista Volunteer for a few years, he achieved one of his favorite accomplishments, saving the Adams Morgan community in D.C. from a bridge and highway construction project that would have split the community. Yes, David was at Woodstock and loved it. He later joined the Essex County NJ governing team as Director of Economic Development. In that role, one of his major projects was building a Resource Recovery Plant in Newark NJ. David took a mid-career diversion to attend the Harvard Kennedy School of Government for his master’s degree. In 1998 David moved with his wife to Dublin, Ohio where he soon joined the Columbus city government in a similar position for Economic Development. He retired in 2014. David was almost never seen without a book in his hands including the night he died suddenly of an apparent heart attack while reading yet another book about WWII at Normandy. David also had another love and passion, hosting high school and college kids from American Field Service and other exchange services. Close to 40 kids passed the portals of the Hull Home. David died on January 11 at age 76. His wife, Mare, one younger brother and cousins survive him. In lieu of flowers, please donate to an organization of your choice in David’s name.
