Born in Lambertville, Michigan, a few years later he moved to the west side of Columbus where he grew up attending a succession of schools. In 1959, he married Judy Koehler. With the exception of a few years, he lived the rest of his life in his beloved Grove City. His goal in life was to own and run his own business. In his early 20’s he began working for an older man who owned and ran the Sunoco service station at 726 West Broad. Just a few years later that man sold the station to Howard on land contract since Howard had no funds for purchasing. For 50 years, he owned and operated that station to which he was devoted, proving to be an astute businessman. Throughout his adult life Howard remained involved in many special interests, only some of which were as a volunteer paramedic fireman, the Franklinton Board of Trade, playing cards, hunting, photography, woodworking, coaching youth football, golfing and the Dumpsters Investment Club. He loved frolicking and playing with his grandchildren. When about 60 years old, Howard received Jesus Christ as his Savior, was then baptized and became a faithful member of his beloved Memorial Baptist Church, for many years faithfully serving as a trustee, week in and week out using his considerable maintenance skills in a broad area of needs. In his last two years of life, he was well cared for at Brookdale Pinnacle Senior Living in Grove City.
