Gahanna Lincoln places 7th at state tournament

One central Ohio girls bowling team made the championsh­ip round of the Division I state tournament Saturday at HP Lanes, and three area bowlers finished in the top 12.

In sixth place after the qualifying round with a team score of 3,017, Gahanna Lincoln lost to third-seeded Troy in a five-game quarterfin­al and ultimately placed seventh overall.

The Lions, who were trying for their first state title since winning three in four seasons from 2018-21, won the first two games 190-178 and 160-119 before falling to the Trojans 161-136, 166-165 and 143-129.

Junior Jordan Carruthers and sophomore Lacey Holden each bowled a 547 series and tied for 22nd place to lead Gahanna. Senior Casey Burns was 31st (526), followed by sophomore Jessica Goldman (80th, 424).

Sophomore Rachel Goldman (95th, 157) and junior Corinne Montgomery (96th, 141) each bowled one game.

Newark senior Jade Gabor finished fourth (644), nine pins out of first place, to lead central Ohio in the individual standings.

Youngstown Boardman's Kaitlyn Greenway won with a 653 series, one pin ahead of Wilmington's Kylie Fisher and two in front of Jada Baker from Ashland.

Boardman defeated Troy 3-1 in the final.

Newark and Hilliard Bradley tied for 13th place (2,866) and London finished 15th (2,848).

Also scoring for Newark were sophomore Lainee Elrenbach (55th, 481), senior Andy Hupp (77th, 440), junior Regan Shanaberg (78th, 435) and senior Makayla Adams (83rd, 403).

Freshman Rachel Johnson was ninth (601) to pace Bradley, followed by juniors Madison Kaylor (tied for 38th, 518), Morgan Kaylor (59th, 466) and Cam Gale (82nd, 416) and sophomore Kay Butcher (92nd, 266).

London, which like Bradley and Newark was making its first team appearance at state, was led by freshman Abbie Wheeler's 12th-place series of 572. Senior Riley Colestock was 60th (465), ahead of classmate Lauren Peters (tied for 70th, 450) and freshman Breanna Baldwin (72nd, 449).

Licking Valley senior Olivia Strait tied for 27th (541), Worthingto­n Kilbourne junior Amber Brockway was 34th (522), Jonathan Alder senior Daisy Henderson tied for 40th (514) and Pickeringt­on Central junior Emma Pugh finished 53rd (487). dpurpura@dispatch.com @dp_dispatch
