COLUMBUS - Michael R. Stock, 66, of Columbus, OH passed away at his home on April 4, 2024.

Mike was born on June 10, 1957 to Lois and John Stock in Columbus. He graduated from Bishop Watterson High School in 1975 and from Kent State University with a Bachelor’s in Biology four years later. Prior to his senior year, he decided to forgo his lifelong interest in botany and pursue a career in medicine. He graduated from the Ohio State College of Medicine in 1982 and started practicing with a specialty in family medicine.

Medicine was Mike’s lifelong passion. He dedicated his life to the service of his patients, family, and friends. He loved conversing with his patients about anything and everything, and the level of care he showed his patients earned him a very loyal following. He managed to improve and save countless lives throughout the years, even serving as a bone marrow donor to a leukemia patient in Washington state.

Mike had an ever-curious mind and a shockingly good memory. He loved recounting his rushing yardage from his time playing JV football at Watterson, or telling stories of his youthful exploits. He was a lifelong fan of the Buckeyes and the Steelers, and could recall rosters or stats from seemingly any game since the advent of television. An avid reader, when not practicing medicine he could often be found deeply engaged in a book, regardless of his environment. He also possessed a deep passion for music. The enthusiasm with which he sang along or danced to his favorite songs was almost contagious. It was difficult to leave a conversation with him without learning something new or a sense of amusement.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and older sister, Virginia. He is survived by his brothers John (Renee) and James (Angharad); his sister Margaret (Tim); his children Catherine, Brian, and Jamey; and several nephews and nieces. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and patients whom he served over the years.

A memorial service will be held at Egan-ryan Northwest, 4661 Kenny Road 43220, on Saturday, April 13 at 3:00 pm.
