COLUMBUS - Margaret Annette Lewis Burgess, 84, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on April 5, 2024.

Born August 15, 1939, in Portsmouth, Ohio to Lovell and Hope (Hackett) Lewis, she attended Portsmouth High School, graduating in 1957. After graduation she moved to Columbus, Ohio.

Annette worked for The Ohio State University and retired after working 30 years for The State of Ohio as a supervisor with the Office of Research in the Department of Developmen­t.

Annette was renowned as a kind and generous person who lovingly offered up her sofa and her refrigerat­or to many a needy soul. She was active in local politics and her union and was a life long advocate for the rights of the disabled. In addition to time spent with family and friends, her favorite passtimes were travel, books, music & theater performanc­es, and watching her son play guitar.

She is survived by two sons, Jack (Mary) Burgess II, and Robert Burgess, both of Columbus, her brother Lovell “Lew” Lewis (Diana) of Fairborn, Ohio, sister-in-law Joyce Lewis, numerous nieces and nephews and many other friends and relatives.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Carlton “Butch” Lewis and Frank Lewis, one sister, Colleen Varney and two sisters-in-law, Shirley and Mary Lewis.

Per Annette’s wishes there will be no funeral but instead, a memorial party will be held on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12th, 2024 from 2-6pm at the Deer Creek State Lodge, in the Scarlet Room. A remembranc­e ceremony will take place at 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
