COLUMBUS - Thomas Otto Manken, age 80, passed away Friday, April 19, 2024. He was born on January 31, 1944 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Otto and Maria Manken. Tom was a graduate of Bishop Watterson High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University. Tom attended Law School at Capital University, but opted to forgo a legal career to raise a family. He worked for more than 30 years in public relations at Blue Cross Blue Shield. Tom had a sense of humor and a passion for fly fishing. He enjoyed various family centered activities including coaching his kids’ soccer teams. He enjoyed photograph­y, especially during family hikes in the woods and on vacations. Tom was a member of Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, where he was involved with ESL and Bible study. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his daughter, Stacy Manken. Tom will be greatly missed by his wife, Candy; children, Teresa (Keith) Crowley and James Manken; grandchild­ren, Matthew Crowley, Jacob Manken, Ryan Crowley and Isabella Manken; brother-in-law, Theodore (Kathi) Schaffner; sisters-in-law, Susan Schaffner and Sally (Chris) Swartz; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM on Friday May 3, 2024 at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church-mill Run Campus, 3500 Mill Run Drive, Hilliard, Ohio 43026, where family will receive friends from 1 PM until time of the service at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made to the American Lung Associatio­n, www.lung.org or to your favorite charity.
