Jane Mixer was born August 31, 1931 to John and Renabel Caley in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 60 years Ted, her parents, her brother Robert and sister-in-law Mary Joy Caley. Jane is survived by her children Kristi (Mike) Strzyzewsk­i, Ted Mixer Jr., Rob Mixer Sr. (Patti Luers) and Kathi (Scott) Spurgeon; grandchild­ren Mike Strzyzewsk­i Jr. (Keely Braud) Karin (Tyler) Patterson, Rob Mixer Jr., Olivia (Chris) Fannin, Delaney Mixer, and Taren, Caley and Kierra Spurgeon, and great grandsons Hudson Pifer, and Jude Fannin, numerous nieces and nephews and dear friend Audrey Melville. Jane attended Albion College and graduated from Western Michigan University in 1953 where she received a BA in Education. While at WMC, she was the President of the Associatio­n of Women Students and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. After marrying Ted on September 19,1953, Jane taught school in Lynchburg, VA and Shaker Heights, OH. She was employed by South Western City Schools from 1970-1992 lovingly teaching kindergart­en at JC Sommer Elementary School. She was a member of Grove City United Methodist Church where she was involved in many ministries and work areas. Her many other volunteer activities included being a Camp Fire Girls leader for both of her daughters’ groups, CCL (Child Conservati­on League), The Friends of the Library, The Grove City Arts Council, and the Grove City Civic Club. Jane was also a long time member of The Little Theater Off Broadway (LTOB). Her many roles have included playing both Abby and Martha Brewster in Arsenic and Old Lace, and as Ethel Savage in The Curious Savage. Her favorite role was as Carrie Watts in A Trip to Bountiful. During her years with LTOB, Jane served on the board. In 2012 both she and Ted were awarded the Ohio Community Theater Associatio­n’s Hall of Fame award in recognitio­n of their many years of service to Community Theater. Friends and family will be received on Thursday, May 23 from 3PM-7PM at Schoedinge­r Grove City, 4242 Hoover Rd, Grove City, OH with services on Friday, May 24 at 12:30PM at Schoedinge­r Grove City immediatel­y followed by interment at Greenlawn Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at Grove City United Methodist Church after the burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to LTOB (3981 Broadway, Grove City, OH, 43123), Grove City United Methodist Church.
