Michael Charles Gerlach, 79, passed away at home on May 13, 2024. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Castillo Gerlach and his three daughters Rachel Gerlach, Ann (Brandon) Fitch and Mary Alice (Nicholas Hamilton) Gerlach.

His grandchild­ren, Nathaniel (Shyla Payne) Gain, Michael Joseph Gain, Emily Gain, Rebecca Gerlach-hobbs and Nora Gerlach Hamilton, will miss his jokes, life lessons and phone calls. He loved his great grandsons, Legend and Kai; sisters Sandra, Susan, Shirley, Mary Jo and Beth; and sisters-in-law Nancy and Rachel Castillo. He is preceded in death by his mother, father and stepparent­s.

Michael served two tours of duty in Vietnam, had a fulfilling career for the Ohio Secretary of State and was a Nationwide Arena usher (sections 121 & 122) for 20 years. He was a member of the VFW and the Knights of Columbus.

He and his wife started the church softball and bowling leagues, and he went to all of his children’s and grandchild­ren’s games and performanc­es. He drove to Cincinnati countless times to watch the Reds, and he never missed an OSU men’s basketball game.

His family thanks the staff at Mt. Carmel and Brookdale Pinnacle.

Calling hours will be Sun. May 19 from 2-5 pm at MAEDER-QUINT-TIBERI FUNERAL HOME, 1068 S. High St. Mass of Christian Burial 10 am Mon. May 20 at St. Mary Church, 684 S 3rd St, German Village. Burial St. Joseph Cemetery with a celebratio­n to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Honor Flight Columbus.

An eternal optimist who never met a stranger and was quick with a joke, Michael would want everyone to know it will be okay and to go get ice cream.
