POWELL - John David Bowen age 55, passed away at home on March 24, 2024. David was born in Columbus Ohio to Mary Ann (Dietz) Bowen and John J Bowen. He was the youngest (and funniest) of three siblings, often leaving his sisters shaking their heads in amazement. David was a proud member of the Ohio National Guard and graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Education. David went on to become a pharmaceutical representative for 20 years, the last 8 of which as an oncology sales specialist for Eisai. He won numerous awards at several companies and built lasting relationships with his colleagues and the doctors he served.

David was an avid OSU fan and enjoyed attending Buckeye football games as often and in the “best seats” as possible. He adored his nieces and nephew, loved to travel, play golf, and spend time with friends and family. Dave had a sharp mind, a quick wit and a truly “wicked” sense of humor. His ability to keep a positive attitude no matter what life (or cancer) threw at him was a marvel to behold.

As both an oncology rep and volunteer at the James Cancer Hospital, David became aware of the unique experiences of breast cancer patients. While researching ways to help, he learned about the Personal Ink organization. Personal Ink sponsors P.ink Days in various cities across the country, bringing local tattoo artists and breast cancer survivors together. These very personal body tattoos empower women to celebrate and “reclaim” their bodies after a mastectomy. When Dave found out there were no such events in the Midwest, he decided to establish P.ink Day Columbus. He was able to complete his training and began holding events in 2017. David continued as lead until stepping down in 2022 due to illness.

David is survived by his mother Mary Ann Bowen, father and stepmother John and Marcele Bowen, sister Janine Bowen (Tim Llewellyn), sister Lisa (Bowen) Stevens, niece Sarah Stevens, niece Anna Stevens and nephew Michael Stevens as well as his step-sister Christy Ternasky (Mitch), step-brother Bryan Bess (Kelly), step-brother Mark Bess (Tonya), their families, his extended family, beloved dog Jack and more friends than you can shake a stick at.

Dave’s family would like to thank the James Cancer Hospital, an amazing team of doctors, nurses and staff, and Dr. Paul Monk in particular.

Celebration of Life will be held Sunday May 19th at the Understory Restaurant, 2571 Neil Ave Columbus OH, 43202 from 11-3.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in David’s name to P.ink Day Columbus https://donorbox.org/p-ink-day-columbus
