REFLECTIONS FROM ROME
A one-night event at Medicine Factory commemorates the year when local artist Hamlett Dobbins sojourned as a recipient of the Rome Prize in 2013-14 and the Sunday mornings that he spent at the Baroque church of Sant’ivo alla Sapienza. The exhibition includes a selection from the hundreds of line drawings he executed while visiting the church and the release of a book, “Sant’ivo June 29, 2014,” which contains all the pieces he did that day. 6-9 p.m. 85 Virginia W. For more information, email hamlettdob[email protected]mail.com. asked to take down an exhibition, after eight days of display, at the public library in Collierville. Deanna Britton, director of the Lucius E. and Elsie C. Burch Jr. Library, said in an email that library staff “received some complaints from patrons. ... The collection was taken down after we determined that the imagery was inappropriate for a general public audience and specifically families with young children who make up a significant segment of our patrons.” Rojo will talk about the incident involving his long series of paintings — depicting women in guises as goddesses, mystics, brides, wantons and victims — as well as other aspects of his new work at Circuitous Succession Gallery. Also showing, appropriately, are Larry Jasud’s photographs of female bodybuilders.
