5 Memphis-made chocolate treats your Valentine will love
The best Valentine’s gift is a box of chocolates. Don’t you agree?
Make your special someone feel extra-loved with a handcrafted chocolate made right here in Memphis.
Here are five of my favorite Memphismade chocolate treats to give — and receive.
Moore Truffles and More: Strawberry and Red Velvet Truffles mooretrufflesandmore.com
Have you ever had a cookie truffle? We highly suggest you try one made by Kendra Moore Crawford.
Crawford is the owner of Moore Truffles and More, and her line of handcrafted confections is divine. The truffles are a unique chocolate treat to give your Valentine.
For the holiday, Crawford is making two special flavors.
Sweet and delicious, her Strawberry Truffles are made with real strawberry preserves. Red Velvet Truffles are made with a moist red velvet cake, mixed with vanilla cookies and dipped in white chocolate. Boxes of 12 truffles are $20 to $23 depending on the flavor.
Moore Truffles and More truffles are available online and at Cordelia’s Market, High Point Grocery, Buster’s Liquors & Wines and Doc’s Wine, Spirits & More.
Shotwell Candy Co.: Chocolate Covered Cherry Caramels
Shotwell Candy Co.’s one-of-a-kind small batch caramels are soft with just the perfect amount of chewiness. The original salted caramel is always a great choice, but be sure to check out the full
line of creative flavors.
For Valentine’s Day, owner Jerrod Smith has created a Chocolate Covered Cherry Caramel. Smith said it’s his play on the classic cherry cordial, but a caramel version.
The limited edition Chocolate Covered Cherry Caramels feature Shotwell’s signature soft caramel and chunks of Bing cherries, all coated in a premium 60% dark chocolate.
Each box contains eight caramels and costs $15.95.
Shotwell Candy Co. caramels are available online and at multiple stores in Memphis. The Chocolate Covered Cherry Caramels are only available online. Shotwell Candy Co. offers free local pickup.
Phillip Ashley Chocolates: Love Drunk Hearts Collection phillipashleychocolates.com
Phillip Ashley Chocolates is known for its breathtaking beautiful truffles that feature Southern ingredients. Each chocolate is a delicious work of art.
For Valentine’s Day, owner Phillip Rix has created a limited edition collection called “Love Drunk Hearts.” It is a wine and spirits infused collection of designer chocolates. Flavors like XO Cognac Dark Truffle (aged Cognac blended with single origin dark chocolate) and Strawberry Champagne (strawberries and Rosé champagne) will be sure to make your Valentine swoon. The collection is $75 per box.
Not only are the chocolates breathtaking, so is the box. The cover art is by Memphis artist Jamond Bullock of Alivepaint.
Phillip Ashley Chocolates are available online. Free local pickup is available.
Dinstuhl’s: Chocolate Covered Strawberries dinstuhls.com
Memphis candy company Dinstuhl’s has made chocolate-covered strawberries for more than 60 years, and they have become a Valentine’s Day go-to for those looking for a sweet treat for their sweetheart.
These famous chocolate-covered strawberries are just as unique as they are delicious. Think chocolate-covered
strawberry meets chocolate cherry cordial.
Dinstuhl’s President Rebecca Dinstuhl said they hope to dip 425 flats of strawberries this year for the holiday. She said they will start dipping strawberries on Feb. 10. Each 1-pound box contains six to eight strawberries and costs $29.95.
Ordering in advance is highly suggested to guarantee you get a box, as well as to avoid the lines. At all Dinstuhl’s locations, pre-paid orders will have a separate pickup area from Feb. 12-14.
Chocolate-covered Strawberries will be available at all five Dinstuhl’s stores in the Memphis area. Overnight shipping is also available.
Bluff City Toffee: Milk Chocolate Pecan Toffee bluffcitytoffee.com
Bluff City Toffee began out of the home kitchen of Stephanie Upshaw. Now she is in dozens of stores and just opened her own retail shop.
Upshaw’s special confection is her twist on English toffee, using locally sourced Southern ingredients. The toffee comes in Milk Chocolate Pecan and Dark Chocolate Pecan Toffee with Sea Salt.
For Valentine’s Day, she has holidaythemed gift boxes. Choose from a 3ounce box ($8) or a 5-ounce box ($12). Her signature 8-ounce gift box with a pretty blue bow ($20.95) also makes a lovely gift.
We love her toffee just as it is, but if you want to make an extra special treat, make chocolate-covered strawberries dipped in Bluff City Toffee toffee crumbles.
Bluff City Toffee is available online and at multiple stores in Memphis. Valentine’s boxes are only available online and at the Bluff City Toffee shop at 5160 Sanderlin, Unit #5.

Dinstuhl’s makes a unique type of chocolate-covered strawberry, totally enrobing it in chocolate and fondant. Think chocolate-covered strawberry meets chocolate covered cherry.
