Central girls 51, Nashville Ensworth 38: The other state champion in action Friday won, as Central, last year’s top team in class AAA defeated Ensworth.

The Lady Warriors, ranked 35th nationally acording to ESPN and first in the Dandy Dozen, got good performances from senior Aaliyah Whiteside and junior Nina Davis to improve to 15-4.

Whiteside, who will play for Georgia Tech next season, scored 18 of her 20 points in the second half and made two 3-pointers that were part of Central’s decisive 19-1 run that bridged the second and third quarters.

Davis added 18 points as she and Whiteside combined to score 30 of Central’s 31 second-half points.

Despite the win, Central coach Niki Bray said her team could have done better.

“We were flat and if I knew why I could write a book about it,” she said. “We had some careless turnovers. We didn’t play like we know we can.”

Ensworth, a semifinalist in Division 2-AA last season, got 14 points from Christina Slay. The Tigers are coached by former longtime Bartlett boys coach Hubie Smith.

Manassas girls 63, White Station 58 (OT): Manassas improved to 20-3 with the overtime victory over the Spartans (9-10).
