Care giver faces forgery, theft

A care giver in Memphis who was supposed to be looking after a man with dementia has been arrested on 19 counts of theft and 19 counts of forgery accusing him of stealing more than $4,500 from the man.

John Sims, 57, is due in court this morning on the charges.

According to a police affidavit, Sims was hired to care for the victim last June.

Since then, he is charged with taking 19 checks from the man, making them out to himself and forging the victim’s signature. The checks totaled $4,544.17.
