Junior spends week learning in Manitoba

- By Julene Reed

Memphis resident Olivia Reckert, a junior at St. George’s Independent School, was a participant in the Polar Bears International’s Youth Leadership Camp in Churchill, Manitoba. Fifteen youths from North America spent a week living on the tundra near the Hudson Bay, where they observed polar bears in the wild, worked with scientists and zoologists, and learned about climate change.

While there, Reckert participated in video conferences and webcasts, as well as blogged about her adventure. Each member of the group was challenged to return to their community and facilitate action plans that promote environmental stewardship in efforts to save polar bear habitat.
