Attend an Energysmar­t Workshop and learn how to use weatherstr­ipping, caulk, window insulation and more to lower your utility bill. Participan­ts will receive a free weatheriza­tion kit valued at up to $50.

Munch and Learn

On Wednesday, Dixon Gallery and Gardens’ Munch and Learn program will feature Dale Skaggs, director of horticultu­re at the Dixon, discussing winter-flowering plants.

The program will begin at noon as Skaggs describes ways to add to your landscape with winterbloo­ming plants. No reservatio­ns required; free to Dixon members, $7 for nonmembers, $5 for seniors or students.

Grafting workshop

In honor of the 100th anniversar­y of the Cherry Tree planting in Washington, on Feb. 23 Memphis Botanic Garden will host a Cherry Tree Grafting Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon.

In celebratio­n of this historic gift from the Japanese people, MBG is offering an opportunit­y to plant your own tree grafted from the much-loved Yoshinos that line Cherry Road.

Join Dr. Russ James as he provides a step -by-step demonstrat­ion, through the bench grafting process to attaching a bud branch to rootstock. Participan­ts will graft their own cherry tree to take home and plant.

Sustainabi­lity lecture

Rhodes College will host a lecture on “The Future of Plants: Diversity, Conservati­on, and Sustainabi­lity” by botanist Sir Peter Crane on March 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Hardie Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

Crane’s lecture will explore the current status of plant diversity and consider some of the challenges in conserving and managing plants in sustainabl­e ways for human benefit.

Birdwatchi­ng 101

On Saturday, join the Beginning Bird Watching class at the Strawberry Plains Audubon Center in Holly Springs, Miss., at 10 a.m. Learn the how-to’s of binocular and field guide usage, as well as what key characteri­stics to look for when identifyin­g birds.

Green City Fund

Honor someone you care about with a contributi­on in to the Green City Fund.

Donations will help enhance parks and other public space through the city. Those honored by donations will receive a special notificati­on, and you may receive a tax deduction.

A contributi­on marking a memorial, birthday or other significan­t event is a great way to honor someone and at the same time help make Memphis a better place.

Specify that the donation is to benefit the Green City Fund, indicate the honoree’s name and address, and the occasion to be commemorat­ed.
