Local hero earns nod for ‘selflessness’
Servpro of East Memphis’ Local Heroes campaign recognizes individuals or groups who perform extraordinary services on a day-to - day basis or someone who has performed a heroic act of bravery by helping someone in distress.
Shannon Bartlett has been selected as the next hero to be recognized in this campaign.
Bartlett is a resident of the Sycamore Lake apartments. He awoke in the middle of the night to find his balcony on fire. Without any thought of his own safety or possessions, he immediately ran out to notify his neighbors, which he humbly refers to as “the Christian thing to do.” Bartlett, who is the head cook at Sweetpea’s Table, also says, “Things can be replaced. It would have upset me a lot if someone had been hurt. That’s what friends and neighbors are supposed to do.”
A few days before the fire, Bartlett was diagnosed with diabetes and the time following the accident was particularly challenging.
He had lost all of his possessions, including his driver’s license, and the bit of money they’d had in the apartment.
Ron Barnett, president of Servpro of East Memphis, said, “Our sales team instantly connected to Shannon Bartlett because we see these situations all too many times in our business. We happily acknowledge him for his selflessness. It says a lot about a man’s character when he can think of others at a crucial time like that. It’s refreshing to see the milk of human kindness remains unspoiled in some people. That’s what the ‘Local Heroes’ campaign is about.”
Servpro is a national, commercial and residential fire and water restoration company. The company’s core consumers are property owners who have suffered fire, smoke or water damage.
After the fire trucks, ambulances, city workers or other emergency personnel have gone, they pick up from there to help families reconstruct their homes and ultimately, their lives.
