Citizens to weigh in on connector for Greenline to park

Improvemen­ts to Broad Avenue and Tillman Street intended to create a secure connector from the Shelby Farms Greenline to Overton Park will be discussed in public meetings set for 2:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday at Lester Community Center, 317 Tillman, and at 6 p.m. Thursday in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church Broad, 2835 Broad.

The design for the Overton Broad Connector, the first two-way cycle track in the Southeaste­rn United States, is the product of the Memphis city Engineerin­g Division working with traffic engineers from various cities around the country.

The agenda for the meeting will include discussion­s surroundin­g the location of the cycle track in relation to parking, changes to the Sam Cooper-Tillman and Sam Cooper- East Parkway intersecti­ons to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety, and plans to create a gateway at Overton Park and East Parkway.

Representa­tives from the city, along with Fuss & O’Neill Engineerin­g, Livable Memphis and the Historic Broad Business Associatio­n, will be on hand to discuss the design, answer questions and listen to the concerns of interested parties.

A letter to Hargett signed by 25 of the 34 Democrats in the House on Tuesday expressed “great concern” about problems ranging from voters being issued incorrect ballots to people who the letter says had proper identifica­tion not being allowed to vote. The letter asked Hargett, whose the UndocuBus from Memphis, bringing their number up to 39, and continue on with the group to Charlotte. One such Memphian, Jose Salazar said that when he heard the UndocuBus was coming through Memphis, his reaction was i mmediate: “Sign me up!” he said.
