Titans player cited in Ga. DUI, crash

Sheriff’s officials say a Tennessee Titans tight end has been arrested in a rollover drunken driving crash in eastern Georgia.

A Lincoln County Sheriff’s report says 23-year-old Brandon Barden lost control of a truck carrying two other passengers on Feb. 23 and crashed into a ditch in Lincolnton, about 35 miles northwest of Augusta.

He was charged with DUI and failure to maintain lane.

FOOTBALL

The Canadian Football League’s Edmonton Eskimos will hold free-agent tryouts Sunday at Memphis University School’s stadium. Registrati­on ($100 in cash) is at 9 a.m. and tryouts at 10. ... The Dallas Cowboys have reworked the contracts of five starters to save salary cap space. By restructur­ing the deals of linebacker DeMarcus Ware, tight end Jason Witten, wide receiver Miles Austin, cornerback Brandon Carr and center Ryan Cook, the Cowboys wiped out the $20 million they were projected to be over the cap this year.

BOXING

The Nevada State Athletic Commission fined and suspended boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on Thursday over a failed drug test last year before a Mexican Independen­ce Day fight in Las Vegas. Chavez (46-1-1) was suspended for nine months from the date of the fight and fined $900,000.

HOCKEY

The Nashville Predators have traded forward Brian McGrattan to the Calgary Flames for defenseman Joe Piskula. McGrattan had not appeared in a game this season for Nashville. Piskula, 28, will report to the Milwaukee Admirals in the American Hockey League, Nashville’s top developmen­tal team.

Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic remained unbeaten this year by routing Andreas Seppi of Italy 6-0, 6-3 as the top four seeds powered into the semifinals of the Dubai (United Arab Emirates) Championsh­ips on Thursday. Defending champion Roger Federer will play fourth-seeded Juan Martin del Potro. Djokovic will face third-seeded Tomas Berdych.

Third-seeded Sam Querrey of the U.S. double-faulted on the last two points of the third-set tiebreaker to lose to qualifier Ernests Gulbis of Latvia 6-4, 4- 6, 7- 6 (4) at the Delray Beach (Fla.) Internatio­nal Championsh­ips. Querrey double-faulted eight times. ... Venus Williams beat fifth-seeded Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia 6-4, 6- 0 to reach the semifinals of the Brazil Tennis Cup in Florianopo­lis. The 20th-ranked Williams will next face Olga Puchkova of Russia. ... Hsieh Su-wei won two matches Thursday to reach the Malaysian Open women’s quarterfin­als at Kuala Lumpur. Hsieh beat Kurumi Nara of Japan 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, then got a few hours of rest before defeating China’s Zhang Shuai 6-2, 6-2.
