Memphis in May unveils official Beale Street Music Fest lineup

ZZ Top, the Black Keys, Hall & Oates, the Roots, Alice in Chains and the Wallflower­s are among the 60-plus acts confirmed to perform at the 2013 Beale Street Music Festival.

On Thursday, organizers from Memphis in May officially unveiled the lineup for the annual event, scheduled for Tom Lee Park, May 3-5.

This year’s roster of acts is a mix that includes singer Sheryl Crow, rap icons Public Enemy, punk poet Patti Smith, country maverick Dwight Yoakam, alt band the Smashing Pumpkins, hard rockers the Deftones, and French group Phoenix.

Other festival favorites, including the Flaming Lips, Jerry Lee Lewis and Gary Clark Jr., will return. Hip-hop performers. including the Roots, Outkast’s Big Boi, and local rappers Al Kapone and up-and-comer Don Trip, will also be performing.

Veteran names from a variety of genres, including soul powerhouse Mavis Staples of the Staple Singers, alt-rock band Cracker and guitar hero Yngwie Malmsteen are set to play along fast-rising acts like Rhode Island rockers Deer Tick and Welsh combo The Joy Formidable.

The festival, which remains committed to a long tradition of presenting blues and blues-based acts, will also host Gov’t Mule, Coco Montoya, Charles Bradley and the Royal Southern Brotherhoo­d.

This year’s Memphis in May will honor Sweden. Award-winning Swedish roots musician Louise Hoffsten will perform at the Beale Music Festival, as part of the cultural exchange.

Single-day tickets and three- day passes to the Beale Street Music Festival are on sale at all Ticketmast­er outlets. The festival May 3-5 at Tom Lee Park opens to the public at 5 p.m. on May 3. Gates open at 1 p.m. on May 4 and 5. Tickets are $35 per day. Three-day passes are available for $ 85 through April 21.
