SOMETHING GOOD IN MEMPHIS
Stanley Adams has been nominated for recognition in MIFA’s Something Good in Memphis campaign by Erin Adams.
Erin writes: “Stanley Adams, my dad, deserves the designation of “Something Good in Memphis.” A few years ago, he was in traffic on I-240, when he noticed a broken down car with Texas plates pulled over on the side of the interstate. A family of four was driving from Texas to live in Grand Rapids, Mich. The family had precious few resources, and virtually none for meeting emergencies like a breakdown. Dad, then a deacon at Brownsville Road Church of Christ, felt compelled to see these people through this emergency, no matter what. He towed their car behind his Suburban and housed them at a local hotel. When a couple of mechanics could not repair the car in time for the family to get to Michigan as planned, he and my brother, Tom, towed the car all the way to Grand Rapids. The family had nothing, and they were trying to get back to family and get their feet back under them. They planned to simply drive through town, but they got an unexpected four-day stay with the most generous man in town. Although this happened several years ago, this is but one example of the efforts my dad has made to show day-today generosity and kindness to all people he encounters.”
