Young Naval Sea Cadets stand tall

-

Sixty-five members of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps march to their pass-in-review graduation ceremony after completing a week of Petty Officer Leadership Academy training at Naval Support Activity Mid South in Millington on Saturday. Cadets ages 11-18 traveled from other Sea Cadet units from across the nation to attend training in numerous locations within the 50 states. The Tennessee BB43 Division is hosting two weeks of various training sessions ranging from Recruit Training, which is two weeks long, to Petty Officer Leadership, which is one week. More than 200 cadets have been scheduled for this year’s training. Naval Sea Cadets pursue a variety of activities including classroom study, practical and hands- on training as well as field trips, orientation visits to military installations and cruises on Navy and Coast Guard ships and small craft. They also participate in a variety of community and civic events. The program develops positive qualities of patriotism, courage, self-reliance, confidence, pride in country and other attributes that contribute to development of strong moral character, good citizenship traits and a drug-free, gang-free lifestyle. The U. S. Navy Sea Cadet Corps and the U. S. Navy League Cadet Corps are part of a nonprofit American Youth Organization that was established by the Navy League at the request of the U. S. Navy more than 40 years ago.
