Memphian J ul i e McGowan, a graduate of Central High School, received a bachelor of arts degree from The College of Wooster during commenceme­nt exercises on May 13. A comparativ­e literature major with an emphasis on French, McGowan was a member of the Ultimate Frisbee Club and served as the lead tour guide in the Office of Admissions. She was also the recipient of a Dean’s Award.

Memphian Leah Mendelson, a member of the class of 2015 at Connecticu­t College, has been named to the Dean’s Honors list for the 2013 spring semester. At Connecticu­t College, Dean’s Honors is a recognitio­n for students who have earned a grade point average of at least 3.65, and Dean’s High Honors is a recognitio­n for students who have earned a grade point average of at least 3.78.

Thomas Gestrich, of Germantown, was among those honored on the Lewis University Dean’s List for spring semester 2013. Gestrich was studying History at Lewis University. To be eligible for this honor, students must have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours of credit with a grade point average of 3.25 out of a possible 4.0.

Alex Chung, son of Alfred Chung, has received a full scholarshi­p to attend Summer Science Sleuths at Duke, a twoweek residentia­l science camp at Duke University. The camp seeks to make a life-changing difference by sparking the desire to follow a path that leads to lifelong involvemen­t in science.

Carolyn L. Dellinger, of Germantown, has been selected for inclusion on the Dean’s List for academic achievemen­t during the spring semester at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. To be eligible for the Dean’s List at St. Lawrence, a student must have completed at least four semester units and have an academic average of 3.6 (based on a perfect 4.0 scale) for the semester. Dellinger, a graduate of Hutchison School, is a member of the class of 2016 at St. Lawrence University.

Rebecca Carper graduated with a degree in Sociology from Colorado College, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She is the daughter of Nancye Carper-Williams and Dale Williams of Memphis.

Daniel Wilson, of Memphis, graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautic­al Science from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas.

Araceli Luna graduated with a degree in Feminist & Gender Studies from Colorado College, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She is the daughter of Eraclio and Estela Luna of Arlington.

Several area students graduated from The Georgia Institute of Technology in May; Kelly Henderson of Cordova received a B. S. in Computatio­nal Media, Sean McGee of Colliervil­le received a Master of Business Administra­tion, and Joonho Na of Germantown received a B.S. in Science, Tech and Culture.

Elise Burch, daughter of Sharon and Reggi Burch of Memphis, was named to the Dean’s List at Austin College for Spring Term 2013. The Dean’s List recognizes the top 20 percent of students taking a minimum of three graded, fullcredit courses each term based on the grade point average for that term. For Spring Term 2013, the Dean’s List recognizes 225 individual­s who earned a semester grade point average of at least 3.775 on a 4.0 scale.

Matt McCurdy has been named to the dean’s list for the winter/spring term at Centre College, an honor reserved for students who maintain at least a 3.60 grade point average. McCurdy, graduate of St. Benedict At Auburndale, is the son of Mark and Carol McCurdy of Bartlett .
