Briarwood blooms honored

- By Vernon Tabor Special to My Life

It is often said that things usually come in threes. Such was the case for the Briarwood subdivision in Bartlett for the month of May.

Briarwood is a relatively small neighborhood of 109 homes, with only one entrance. Each year during the months of May through October, the Briarwood Homeowners Association’s beautification committee names a “yard of the month” for a deserv- ing homeowner. To receive this award, yards are judged on how well their plants, trees, shrubs and flowers are maintained and grass must be cut, edged, green and neat. No artificial shrubs or flowers are permitted.

Fortunately for Briarwood the competition is always keen as its homeowners take great pride in the appearance of their property.

May was an exceptionally rewarding month for the subdivision. Briarwood residents Cary and Daph- ne Bawcum woke up the morning of May 1 to their delight having won the association’s monthly award.

Around the corner, on the same day, Ken Hoskins received the city of Bartlett’s Beautification Committee’s award for yard of the month, and the subdivision’s entranceway was awarded the Bartlett City Beautiful’s Civic Pride Award for May.
