For Jasmine Cincore, the relief comes from knowing she’ll be exactly where she’s supposed to be.

The Briarcrest class of 2014 basketball standout announced that she will play at the University of Nebraska. She had interest from some 20 schools and picked the Cornhuskers over Michigan, Marquette and Georgia State.

Verbal commitments are nonbinding, but Cincore is expected to make her decision official during the November early signing period.

“It’s a great school,” she said. “They have a great program; they were in the Sweet 16 (this past year). The coaches there definitely care about their players and you can tell they’re there to help you more than just basketballwise.

“I’m going to study communications and plan to go into broadcasting. I met with some of the professors and you could tell that they really love what they do. I’m excited; I feel like it’s where I’m supposed to be.

he 5-8 combo guard had a terrific junior season, leading the Saints to a 27-2 record — highlighted by a 26-game winning streak — and a spot in the Division 2-AA state semifinals. She averaged 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals per game en route to earning Miss Basketball mention.

Cincore was also one of five finalists for The Best of the Preps player of the year award and the only junior in the group.

“She’s a very fine basketball player,” Saints coach Lee Smith said in a release. “She’s very strong, a good- decision maker on the floor and she’s tough.”

Cincore said improved outside shooting is what she’ll be working on as she attempts to lead the Saints back to the state tournament this season.

“Midrange game, ball- handling, seeing the floor, those are the things I do well,” she said. “I need to get more consistent with my outside shooting; I’m definitely going to be working on that.”
